Confounding all expectations, the weather in Vermont cooperated to produce a stunning sunny day for the total solar eclipse of April 8th, 2024. This was even more surprising given that 4 days before, this was our street:

As the weather shifted and it became clear that Vermont was the place to be, we started to prepare for a few visitors. Friends and family dropped in to hang out and watch the celestial spectacle:

I set up a tent/booth to project the eclipse onto a dark board to observe the progression of the moon across the sun:

Jack was able to capture a wonderful photograph during totality:

The experience was my first time seeing the ring that surrounds the sun during totality. If you’ve seen it, you know. If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend making the trip to see one of these in your lifetime. The moment was singular, and beyond any of the partial eclipses that I have seen.
Note: no apparent superpowers were conferred during this eclipse, but I’m holding out hope that they are simply not revealed yet.
