Drive

Finished Daniel Pink’s Drive in one sitting this evening.

I love reading books that indicate a pattern that I’ve been circling without knowing I’m circling it beforehand. There are a ton of great ideas in the book that are immediately applicable, and others that are intriguing and may be worth a shot.

One bummer is that the book has a link to a “comprehensive, free online assessment”, but the link is wrong (http://www.danpink.com/drive just goes to the landing page for the book itself) and Googling for it produces a page clearly under construction for some time.

Understanding the limits of web development time and how hard it is to put together a comprehensive online assessment (let online free), I can sympathize.  It’s taken About 8 weeks to deliver our own working version of the new Reading Plus formative assessment in its initial release, and that’s with a team of people working on it almost full time.

I like the idea of the Results Only Work Environment – would be curious how it would work when most of your clients are strictly business hours though.

Going to pore through the recommended list of books in the back of Drive and see what might make sense to read next.  Although, I’m currently working my way through Alan Cooper’s About Face 3…so maybe will hold off until I get through that.
